MG Windsor EV : The MG Windsor EV has reached a major sales milestone in India, crossing 75,000 units in less than two years since its launch.
The achievement strengthens the electric crossover’s position as one of the country’s most popular battery-powered passenger vehicles and highlights the growing interest in practical electric cars for everyday use.
JSW MG Motor India confirmed that the Windsor has recorded more than 19,000 sales during 2026 so far.
The model’s performance has also contributed significantly to the company’s electric vehicle strategy, particularly as buyers in both metropolitan areas and emerging cities gradually become more comfortable with EV ownership.
The Windsor EV was introduced as a different kind of electric vehicle. Instead of following the conventional SUV design seen on many new models, it combines the proportions of a crossover with a spacious, lounge-inspired cabin.
Its design, comfortable interior and long list of equipment have helped it appeal to families looking for an alternative to conventional petrol and diesel cars.
Strong sales across India
One of the most notable aspects of the Windsor’s journey is its popularity outside the largest cities. According to industry reports, a significant share of the model’s sales has come from non-metro markets. This suggests that interest in electric mobility is no longer limited to buyers in Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru or other major urban centres.
For many customers in smaller cities, the Windsor offers a balance between modern technology and daily usability. Its upright seating position, generous cabin space and quiet driving experience make it suitable for family travel. At the same time, its electric powertrain helps reduce dependence on fuel for regular commuting.
The milestone comes at a time when India’s electric passenger vehicle market is becoming increasingly competitive.
New models from Tata Motors, Mahindra and other manufacturers are entering the segment with longer ranges, powerful motors and advanced safety features. Despite this pressure, the Windsor has maintained a strong presence in the market.
The wider MG portfolio has also benefited from rising demand for electric vehicles. In June 2026, JSW MG Motor India reported its highest-ever monthly wholesale sales of 7,568 units, representing year-on-year growth of 30 percent.
Electric vehicles contributed more than 75 percent of the company’s total wholesale sales during that month.
Battery options and driving range
The MG Windsor EV is available with two battery pack options. The smaller battery has a capacity of 38 kWh and offers a claimed range of up to 332 kilometres. The larger 52.9 kWh battery provides a claimed range of up to 449 kilometres on a single charge.
The availability of two battery choices allows customers to select a version according to their driving requirements. Buyers who mainly use the car for urban commuting may find the smaller battery adequate, while those who regularly travel between cities may prefer the larger pack and its additional range.
The electric motor develops approximately 134 bhp and 200 Nm of torque. These figures are not aimed at delivering sports-car performance, but they provide enough power for city traffic and highway driving.
Like most electric cars, the Windsor delivers its torque immediately, allowing it to move away smoothly from traffic lights and overtake without the need for frequent gear changes.
The actual range will depend on road conditions, traffic, weather, driving style and the use of air conditioning. As with any electric vehicle, owners who can charge at home and plan their longer trips in advance are likely to enjoy the most convenient ownership experience.
Comfort remains a major attraction
The Windsor’s cabin is one of its strongest selling points. MG has focused heavily on rear-seat comfort, making the vehicle suitable for families who often travel with passengers in the back. The rear seats can recline up to 135 degrees, creating a relaxed seating position during longer journeys.
The dashboard features a large 15.6-inch infotainment display, which gives the cabin a modern appearance. The car also offers connected technology, ventilated front seats, rear air-conditioning vents and other convenience features expected from a premium electric vehicle.
MG’s AeroGlide design language gives the Windsor a clean and futuristic appearance. The absence of a traditional engine at the front has allowed the designers to create a smooth, streamlined shape. Flush-style door handles, distinctive lighting elements and aerodynamic detailing further enhance its road presence.
The interior is designed to feel more like a lounge than a conventional car cabin. This approach has helped the Windsor stand apart in a segment where many electric vehicles focus mainly on performance, battery capacity or exterior styling.
Technology and safety features
The Windsor EV is equipped with a range of technology features intended to make daily driving easier. The large touchscreen serves as the main interface for entertainment, navigation and connected functions. The vehicle also supports smart connectivity features that allow users to monitor selected vehicle functions remotely.
Higher variants are equipped with Level 2 advanced driver assistance technology. These systems can support the driver through features such as adaptive cruise control, lane-related assistance and collision warnings. However, these features are designed to assist the driver and do not replace attentive human control.
The vehicle also includes multiple airbags and other electronic safety systems. While equipment levels can vary depending on the variant, safety has become an important factor in the electric car market as buyers increasingly compare vehicles beyond their range and styling.
What lies ahead for MG Windsor EV
The Windsor milestone gives JSW MG Motor India a strong foundation as it prepares to expand its product range. The company has confirmed plans to introduce three new vehicles in India by the end of financial year 2027. The upcoming portfolio is expected to include two electric vehicles and one plug-in hybrid model.
This strategy indicates that MG is preparing for different types of customers. Fully electric vehicles will appeal to buyers who have access to regular charging, while a plug-in hybrid could attract customers who want electric driving for daily use but still require the flexibility of a petrol engine for long-distance travel.

For now, the Windsor EV remains the company’s key volume product in India. Its combination of spacious seating, multiple battery options, connected features and a comfortable driving experience has helped it establish a strong identity in the market.
Crossing 75,000 sales is more than a numerical achievement for MG. It shows that electric cars are gradually moving from niche products to mainstream family vehicles.
The next phase will bring stronger competition, but the Windsor’s early success suggests that Indian buyers are ready to consider electric mobility when a car offers convenience, comfort and practical everyday usability.
